Summer 2014, Memorial Day

Hello Travel Blog Friends,

We've had a busy summer so far in 2014, not many weekends at home.  I guess you can say we are taking advantage of the warm weather, since we had such a long and cold winter.  And I'm using the word "warm" very loosely...we have seen 90 degrees once once, not many 80's and a whole lot of 70's.  Makes me glad I don't have a pool...I wouldn't be in it much.

Memorial Day weekend found us in Green County in southern Wisconsin.  We stayed in Monroe, and traveled around the county looking for barn quilts.  There are 100+ barn quilts in Green County.  Mom joined us for the weekend.  This is our third Memorial Day weekend looking for barn quilts.  A new tradition has been born!  Here are some of our favorites:

We even found a round barn!

While traveling around the County, we visited the town of Broadhead, and found an unexpected treasure:  their train depot, now restored and turned into a museum.   We found another treasure a few blocks away...an ice cream shop.  No ordinary ice cream shop, however.  This one was converted from an old service station.  We had ice cream in what used to be the garage.  Here's Mom and Denis enjoying their treats!

While exploring the county, we came across a barn with a huge model train layout!  All we could say was WOW!

Finally, the scenery!  Beautiful rolling hills of farmland.

We had a great time and found some real treasures!  But, then again, we always do!
